Dr. Joseph Saavedra is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists. Dr. Saavedra is also fluent in Spanish.
Dr. Saavedra earned his baccalaureate degree followed by a doctor of medicine at the University of Salamanca in Salamanca, Spain. He completed his internship and residency in obstetrics and gynecology at the University of Medicine and Dentistry of New Jersey, Rutgers Medical School in 1983. During his residency, Dr. Saavedra was appointed Chief Resident and was awarded the Theodore Loizeaux Prize for the most outstanding research paper on Spironolactone in the Treatment of Hirsutism. Dr. Saavedra was appointed as Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology in Corning, New York from 1984 to 1985, and CIGNA Healthplan of South Florida from 1986 to 1987. Dr. Saavedra served as Vice-Chairman of the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at Brandon Hospital from 1996 to 1998 and served as Chairman from 2000 to 2004.
