Cord Blood Stem Cell Preservation

Cord blood stem cell preservation is the process of collecting and cryogenically storing the blood left over in the placenta and in the umbilical cord after the birth of the baby.

Collecting the umbilical cord blood is done immediately after delivery and is not harmful to the mother or baby.

Blood from the umbilical cord contains stem cells that can be used to treat some types of illnesses, including a wide range of cancers, genetic diseases, immune system deficiencies, metabolic disorders, and blood disorders.

Parents can choose to preserve their newborn’s cord blood at a private cord-blood bank that will allow them to have immediate access if their baby or family member should they need stem cell treatment.
