|Preconception Health Visit|
One of the most important steps you can take to have a healthy pregnancy is to see your doctor before you conceive.
The preconception health visit involves evaluating your health and identifying any problems that might affect you and your baby later. During the visit your doctor will discuss your medical history, diet, lifestyle and the steps you should take to prepare your body for pregnancy.
The preconception health visit is recommended at least six months prior to the time you want to conceive. This is good time to discuss when to discontinue birth control and how to determine ovulation to help you become pregnant more quickly.
The preconception health visit will also identify any potential risks for you or your baby and steps you can take to reduce the risk of birth defects and other problems. Through screening, education and intervention, you can prevent problems that might affect you or your baby later.
Preconception care can improve your chances of getting pregnant, having a healthy pregnancy, and having a healthy baby.
