Stephanie Van Zandt, M.D.

Dr. Stephanie Van Zandt is board certified in obstetrics and gynecology and a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists.  She is a member of the American Medical Association, Florida Obstetric and Gynecologic Society, the Pinellas County Medical Society, and credentialed by The North American Menopause Society as a NAMS Menopause Practitioner.

Dr. Van Zandt was born in Pontiac, Michigan shortly after her parents graduated from Michigan State University. She comes from a well-rounded family of five and moved to Florida in the early 1970’s.  She attended Seminole High School and decided that she wanted to be a Pediatrician.  She attended the University of Florida and spent some of her most fun-filled years studying and making new friends.

Next, she attended University of South Florida College of Medicine and figured out that she was really meant to be an Obstetrician/Gynecologist.  She completed four hard working years of residency at University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston and returned to Florida in 1990.  During residency, she had met Dr. Shelley Young and they moved to Ft. Myers, Florida together to join the same group.  After 3 years, they decided to open their own practice in Clearwater.

Just before the move, Dr. Van Zandt met her future husband and they long-distance dated for two years.  Her husband, Dr. Benjamin Schaffer, moved with his 6 year old son, Justin, in 1995 and they soon added Jacob in 1997.

The family decided that they needed another child, preferably a girl, to complete them.  As older parents, their best option was adoption and they had a calling to find their angel in Ukraine.  One of the most exciting and exhilarating times of their lives was spending 5 weeks in Ukraine searching for and finding their 15 mos. old daughter, Lyna.  The transition was seamless as they were meant for each other – a perfect family fit.

Dr. Van Zandt juggles a busy profession and home-life with her understanding spouse, the help of great nannies and with help and guidance from her family.  She looks forward to watching her family mature and helping them become the best that they can be.
