Richard Matthews, M.D.

Dr. Richard Matthews is board certified by the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology. He is a Fellow of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and a member of the Florida Medical Association, Hillsborough County Medical Association, and Physicians for Social Responsibility.

Born in Dayton, Ohio, Dr. Matthews has practiced obstetrics and gynecology in the Tampa Bay area since 1982. Dr. Matthews received his baccalaureate degree from Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana in 1968. His doctor of medicine was awarded to him in 1972 from Ohio State University College of Medicine. He completed his internship at Tampa General Hospital in 1973. His residency in obstetrics and gynecology was completed at Good Samaritan Hospital in Phoenix, Arizona in 1980.

Dr. Matthews practiced medicine from 1975-1977 in Phoenix, Arizona before working with the United States Public Health Service in Indian health from 1977-1982. Dr. Matthews also served in the United States Air Force as a Flight Surgeon from 1973-1975. He was appointed as Clinical Assistant Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of South Florida from 1986-1989.
