Dr. LaPolla graduated from the University of Illinois School of Medicine as an honorary "James Scholar". He continued on to Internal Medicine residency at the University of California, Irvine. Once completed, he then completed residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at University of Southern California where he continued his education completing a fellowship in Gynecological Oncology. He is a Diplomate of the American Board of Obstetrics and Gynecology and subspecialty board certification in Gynecologic Oncology, as well as board certified in Internal Medicine.
In addition to being board-certified Gynecologic Oncologist, Dr. LaPolla has had extensive training in the diagnosis and surgical management of breast cancer with special interest in hereditary breast/ovarian cancer syndromes. He has also had extensive experience in minimally invasive surgery of the female reproductive tract and breast. He has special interest in da Vinci robotic surgery for cervical and endometrial cancer.
Dr. LaPolla's professional career included positions held at the University of Iowa and the University of South Florida, where he was an associate Professor in the University of South Florida, Department of OB/GYN at H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center. He went on to be the Director of the OB/GYN Residency Program at Bayfront Medical Center until 1998.
When he is not attending to his patients he practices a healthy lifestyle and enjoys golf, tennis, and participating in triathlons and spending time with his family. He sings in his parish choir, enjoys the opera and orchestral music.
